Adox HR 50 - 35mm Black & White Film

The obsessive's slow film. Adox took a technical emulsion that had no business being in a camera and made it work. Film photographers are unreasonably grateful. Adox HR-50 is an ISO 50 black and white film built on a high-resolution technical emulsion, produced in Germany by Adox — a company with a photochemical history stretching back to 1860. Left to its own devices this emulsion is too slow and too contrasty for ordinary photography. Adox's Speed Boost technology changes that, bringing it to a usable ISO 50 and taming the contrast enough for landscapes, street photography, and portraits. What remains is ultrafine grain, exceptional sharpness, and a tonal rendering that faster films simply can't produce. In stock now and shipping fast from the UK.

What Makes Adox HR 50 Good

ISO 50 - Slow, deliberate, demanding. This is the film for photographers who control their light rather than chasing it.

Ultrafine Grain - Some of the finest grain available in any format. Large prints and scans stay exceptionally clean.

Exceptional Sharpness - High-resolution technical emulsion delivering maximum detail. Every frame earns its place.

Speed Boost Technology - Adox's process that makes a technical emulsion usable in a conventional camera. Without it, this film wouldn't exist in this form.

Produced in Germany - Adox has been making photographic chemistry since 1860. The experience shows.

Standard B&W Chemistry - Develops in standard chemistry, though Adox's own developers are recommended for best results.

36 Exposures - A full roll. Use them deliberately.

Best For

Landscapes, fine art photography, portraiture in controlled conditions, large format printing, and photographers for whom maximum grain resolution is the entire point. Once you've shot it, send it our way — we develop and scan it too.

Perfect for photographers who believe the grain should be invisible. Adox HR 50 makes the case convincingly.
