Fomapan 100, 200 & 400 - 35mm Black & White Film Bundle

Classic, Creative and Action: the whole Fomapan 35mm range, one roll of each.

Three films from the same Czech factory that behave rather less alike than the shared name suggests.

The Fomapan 100, 200 & 400 35mm Film Bundle contains one roll each of Fomapan Classic 100, Creative 200 and Action 400, the three panchromatic black and white negative films made by Foma Bohemia in the Czech Republic. All three are 35mm, 36 exposures, on a cellulose triacetate base, and develop in standard black and white chemistry.

What Makes the Fomapan 100, 200 & 400 Bundle Habit-Forming

One Roll of Each Speed

Shooting all three is the quickest way to find out which Fomapan suits the way you work. Classic 100 is for bright light and slow, careful shooting, Creative 200 for general use, and Action 400 for grey days and interiors. Each has its own page: Classic 100, Creative 200 and Action 400.

Creative 200 Is the Odd One Out

Foma singles out Creative 200 as using new generation tabular core/shell grains. Reviewers tend to describe it as looking old and new at the same time, and of the three it is the one most likely to surprise you.

Meter Generously

Foma's datasheets say each film tolerates a stop of overexposure and two of underexposure with no change to development. Independent tests have been less generous, particularly with Action 400, where two stops under left very little shadow detail. Rate all three at or below box speed and you will rarely regret it.

Watch the Long Exposures

Creative 200 needs extra exposure sooner than you might expect. Foma's own datasheet asks for an extra stop and a half at one second, which is worth knowing before you try night shots with it.

Developed In House

All three develop in ordinary black and white chemistry. We process black and white in house, so the three rolls can come back to you together.

Is Fomapan good for beginners?

Yes, with one caveat. It is inexpensive, reasonably forgiving and develops in any standard black and white chemistry, which makes it a sensible first film for home developing. The catch is that it rewards generous exposure, so metering at box speed in poor light tends to give thin negatives. Rate it a little slower than the box says.

What is the difference between Fomapan 100, 200 and 400?

Speed and grain, mainly. Classic 100 gives the most detail in good light, Action 400 trades some of that for speed in poor light, and Creative 200 sits between them on a different, tabular grain structure. All three share the same base and the same development chemistry.

Best For Photographers new to Fomapan who want to try the whole range before settling on one, anyone building a home developing habit on an affordable film, and people shooting a mix of bright days and grey ones in the same week. Once you have shot them, send them our way. We develop, scan and print black and white in house.

Perfect for: Budget-conscious black and white shooters, home developers practising their technique, students, anyone curious what the fuss about Czech film is, and anyone whose dependency is cheap enough to have got completely out of hand.

Foma is one of very few companies outside Kodak, Fujifilm and Ilford still making film at any scale, and it has been at it for roughly a century. The films are not flawless, and they want more light than the box admits. But shooting all three side by side will teach you more about how film speed shapes a black and white negative than most photography books manage. More Fomapan film, posted from North Essex.
